ASPECTOS GERAIS DA ACIDOSE RUMINAL SUBAGUDA

Resumo

A acidose ruminal consiste em uma enfermidade metabólica associada à ingestão de grande quantidade de carboidratos rapidamente fermentáveis. As principais formas clínicas são a acidose ruminal aguda e a acidose ruminal subaguda (SARA), a qual é caracterizada por um quadro mais brando e de queda transitória do pH. Trata-se de um distúrbio desafiador para identificar e prevenir. Não há consenso a respeito da causa da SARA, embora a diminuição do pH ruminal provavelmente seja o principal fator. A fisiopatologia é complexa, e os sinais clínicos são inespecíficos dificultando o diagnóstico. A SARA tem consequências econômicas e de saúde à longo prazo devido às suas complicações que afetam consideravelmente o conforto e o bem-estar animal. Devido à afecção acometer rebanhos como um todo, os avanços atuais desta doença ganharam maior foco na prevenção que requer cuidados no manejo alimentar. Assim, os animais devem ser monitorados constantemente para facilitar reconhecimento precoce da condição e limitar as perdas. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo revisar os aspectos gerais relacionados à SARA, como etiopatogenia, epidemiologia, achados clínicos, diagnóstico, tratamento e prevenção, destacando sua importância na saúde e na produção de ruminantes.
