Abstract

Inhalation anesthesia is often used in equines submitted to prolonged surgeries, but there are some complications involved in this procedure. The combination of different techniques is used seeking greater anesthetic secmity through cardiorespiratory stability and analgesia. Ketamine by continuous intravenous infusion has been used as an adjuvant to inhalational anesthesia to reduce he required inhalational anesthetic favoring stability of physiological parameters. In this case report, hemogasomethyl and cardiorespirato1y parameters were evaluated during continuous infusion of dextroketamine an adjuvant of inhalato1y anesthesia in a surgical procedure of a mule. Physiological parameter settings showed that the proposed multimodal anesthesia protocol was efficient.
