Abstract

The present article proposes to problematize the space destined to the women in the representations of atelier and portraits of artists. Women's production has become the subject of studies and research on trajectories of painters and sculptors, revealing unknown works and previously silenced agencies. In addition to recovering women's experiences and productions, it is necessary to rethink the cultural spaces traditionally attributed to women and resistance practices. The presence of women in the art academies, encouraged a new type of representation of the feminine. The portraits and self-portraits of women artists in this context can be thought of as an instrument of legitimation of the profession. We propose, through portraits and scenes of atelier, to examine the representative possibilities of female performance in the arts.
