This article intends to make an analysis of the Vila de Itapemirim, southern region of Espírito Santo, starting from the point of view of those who came to this locality, being these colonizers, slaves or travelers. This region had great political and economic highlight during the nineteenth century in the Province of Espírito Santo, thanks to the sugar cane and coffee plantations. Local farmers, many of them migrants, who came in search of the virgin lands of the Itapemirim River Valley, became important figures in provincial and imperial politics, in the case of Joaquim Marcelino da Silva Lima, Barão de Itapemirim, who held the position of vice president of the province eight times. They brought with them their captives, but many others were acquired during the nineteenth century, being this region that most had enslaved Africans in the Holy Spirit. The locality was also visited by many visitors, who came to know the farms that stood out, or were just passing through, but recorded the beauties, riches and inequalities of Itapemirim. The peak occurred in 1860, with the visit of Dom Pedro II and all the conflicts that occurred before and after his trip.
