Abstract

Severino Sombra and Jeovah Motta were important political actors in Ceará in the 1930s, leading, at different times, the Ceará Legion of Labor, an institution that organized and mobilized diverse categories of workers. In the 1980s, both gave interviews to the historian Sebastião Rogério Ponte, which were used in several researches and today are part of the collection of the Nucleus of Cultural Documentation (NUDOC) of the Federal University of Ceará. In the present text, we highlight the academic production that made use of such sources, analyzed the potential of the interviews for future researches and raised some theoretical and methodological questions, involving the use of oral sources, especially with regard to memory, identity and subjectivity.
