TWO FACES OF THE HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE SUPPRESSION
Keywords:
Culture, Identities, Historical Experience, OthernessAbstract
Intercultural dialogues as well as those involving identities may exhibit the historical experience suppression. This term refers to the disregard of historical experience as a constituent element of cultures and identities. When the suppression of historical experience occurs, the interlocutor weakens the otherness. The article in question problematizes the historical experience suppression, reflecting on its consequences and suggesting for the same two categories: the macro suppression, that would involve an individual and a collective; And the micro suppression, which would involve two individuals. Distinct in their asymmetries and methods, the macro and micro historical experience suppression were inspired by postcolonial paradigms, more precisely Edward Said's dogmatic description of Orientalism.
