Abstract

Oman acquired its independence in 1964 and, after a period in which it was dedicated to achieve internal stability, it began to pay more attention to the events that took place at the regional level. The fact is that, over time, it began to carry out a foreign policy with its own characteristics. In this context its external action can be referred to as independent, pragmatic and moderate. The objective of our work is to describe the main guidelines of Omani foreign policy in the last five years and analyze how domestic, regional and international conditions affect it. To this end, the contributions of Gerd Nonneman (2005), who underlines the benefits of multi-level analysis and multi-factor explanations to understand the external action of the countries of Middle East, are considered. Meanwhile, to carry out this study we opted for a qualitative approach by resorting to the use of secondary sources.
