Abstract

At Homer’s Iliad there is a constant interference, sometimes a direct one, of the gods in the mortal world. Meanwhile, in Wolfgang Petersen’s movie, “Troy”, we may observe a ‘mortalization’ of these deities, if not a complete absence of them. By analyzing some scenes of the film and some excerpts from the book in a comparative way, finding similarities and differences in the representation of immortality in both works, it’s possible to understand the intentions of each author in each context. This article aim is to historicize and comprehend the choices made by the director of this cinematographic work to establish these representations, which make the film to take a little different direction than that of the Homer’s narrative.
