Abstract

This paper analyzes the film , which existed in the Castanhal city in the state of Pará between the years 1938 and 1995, called Cine Argus . Which it was an important space for carrying out activities involving culture and leisure of the population. The period in which we focus our analysis, from the available documentation comprises the decades between 1960 and 1990 , as the memory of the deponents and accessed documents while searching refers to this period. Through the examination of the oral memory, we try to understand the film 's relation to the modernization of Castanhal space and point its influence in the city's daily life and their survival strategies. Among these, we highlight one that was essential for their surviva , the relationship of cinema with the Japanese colony, discussing the importance of their economic activity for the Amazônia.
