Abstract

This text aims to show how a song, as a cultural artifact, is far from having a fixed meaning. To do so, it retaques some compositions – immersed in a whole net of historical relationships in the musical domain –, suggesting they are appropriated e reappropriated according to different set of meanings. As a sound chameleon, their senses move to an extent where the song loses its original significance given by its author. In parallel with the analysis os different performances of the same song, this paper also searches to draw attention to some methodological precautions the researcher must take in dealing with musical language.
