Abstract

This article seeks to demonstrate how it established a mindset as directed above all to an appreciation of the scientific epistemic and Mathematics during the sixteenth century, a period in which Nature was still seen in both qualitative and organist. From a more general context that encompasses the entire European continent by means of a study on the resumption of Neoplatonism Pythagorean, for a more specific approach of Portuguese society embodied in the works and activities of the great mathematician and cosmógrafo chief Pedro Nunes, seek to analyze the debate makes the promotion of mathematical knowledge as a language for understanding and studying the phenomena of nature, and how size debate would contribute to the birth of modern science.
