The present study approaches ‘the information and the decision process in the area of public politics: the initiative of the Department of Finance of the State of Ceará – SEFAZ’. The option for doing such study came from the interest and professional background of the author in the areas of Business Administration and Computer Science. This background made it possible for her to participate in the process of building the Inspection Datamart, which is part of the Data Warehouse project from the Department of Finance and experience the management conduction of institutional projects of this Secretary, through their activities developed in the Institutional Development Advisement (ADINS). The study aims at showing how to use, at the already mentioned institution, the Data Warehouse technology as a tool to support the decision process in the management of the Department of Finance of the State of Ceará. (SEFAZ). The study is based on a bibliographical research about some authors such as Bresser Pereira (1997; 1998), Castells (1999), Drucker (2002), Ralph Kimball (1998), William Inmon (1997). Concepts related to Data Warehouse Technology were used, always aiming at conceptualizing and permitting the understanding of this technical subject, focused on the Secretary environment. It also aims at collaborating with the detailed explanation of its pilot project, focused on the technological modernization of SEFAZ, aiming at a better service to the citizens. The final result of the study highlights the existence of a tax exoneration policy, through studies and analysis from the GTAE Group, which uses the DW technology as its main work tool.
