Abstract

The Federal Government, from the year 2000 in Brazil began an important process of change in the management of the national Science and Technology. Aiming a reform in the field of research funding, where there was a greater concern about the source of funds for the promotion of research and the operationalization of development programs. This study seeks to analyze the role played by the Scientific Initiation in training of the teaching staff, strengthening of research and knowledge production within the State University of Pará - UEPA. Setting up as a descriptive exploratory study. We focus our study object in the participation of students related to undergraduate research programs developed by UEPA through calls offered by the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies - PROPESP since its establishment in 2002 until the year 2009. The survey was developed from data collected from PROPESP, Master Program Coordination, Coordination of Specializations and the Coordinators of each Administrative Center - COADS. We also heard teachers and administrators for the programs.
