Violence based on gender, mainly in the household and familiar context, is a structural problem. With the new coronavirus pandemic, this kind of violence worsened, so public policies need to be adapted and strengthened. In this text, we discuss explanatory and aggravating factors of this violence in the context of the pandemic, from the gender studies perspective; followed by contextualization about Women Policy Organisms (WPO) in Brazil; and also from a survey of actions published on government websites of the Federative Units, with a longitudinal approach between the first and the second trimester of the pandemic in Brazil. From that, we seek to comprehend action types and temporality in their relation with the state WPOs. Finally, results guide to a tendency of faster and more committed strategies by states with WPOs that have specific competence to deal with women affairs, but these strategies are also limited. Generally, they are interpreted in the scenario of public policy destructuring of this area starting from the federal level.
