Abstract

With the health crisis inaugurated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the social distance measures adopted to try to contain the spread of the disease, surveys carried out by various organizations and broadcasted by the media pointed to an increase in the number of cases of violence practiced at home, especially against women. Considering this context, our objective with this article is to contribute to a better understanding of the worsening of this social problem, paying attention to the answers that have been offered in order to face it. To this end, we guide our reflections by observing empirical elements, collected from the survey of initiatives that emerged during the pandemic to deal with domestic violence against women, from publicity campaigns by public agencies to normative provisions on the subject (those that already existed and the new proposals that emerged with social isolation). In the end, we propose that Covid-19 did not introduce new problems, nor did it propose new solutions. The answers given by the public authorities continue to focus on the logic of the official complaint/punishment of the aggressor, thus leaving a large number of women unattended. This is because, when betting on a single answer, we do not consider the plurality of desires, dependencies, situations, affections and moralities at stake when it comes to the life (and autonomy) of these women.
