Abstract

The visual arts market has grown significantly in Brazil over the last eight years; however, it differs from the international market and depends on it in some ways. These differences have represented an impact in the art market in Rio de Janeiro and in Sao Paulo. Therefore, this article is based on the methodological approaches developed by Raymonde Moulin and Howard Becker, which emphasize the importance of the art networks and the interaction between individual and institutional actors, showing that while the art market in the two richest cities of Brazil presents the same type of connections and interactions between experts, collectors, institutions and art lovers, it has a very local and private character.
