Abstract

This article analyzes the reform implemented in Brazilian professional education during the FHC Government, discussing how the impossibility of integration between high school and technical education at technical level, regulated by Decree no. 2,208 / 97, contributed to the expansion of the elitization of education in the country. Then, we ponder the Lula Government's guidelines and proposals for this type of education, highlighting the opposition between his speech and that of the previous government. Finally, we indicate the advances currently promoted by the public authorities, as well as the challenges that need to be faced for the success of the current proposal for public policies for professional education in Brazil.
