Abstract

A variety of organisms have been implicated in bone infections such as bacteria and fungi. A male rabbit, with a history of locomotion difficulty, with the presence of a foot injury in both posterior limbs, characterizing bubble foot, which were already ulcerated, edema in the tarsal joints, besides the presence of pus in the region. An x-ray of the posterior limbs was requested, with areas of osteolysis being observed. The animal's history and radiographic result were used to give a presumptive diagnosis of osteomyelitis. As treatment, enrofloxacin therapy was instituted, in addition to cleansing the pododermite with iodine at 1%. The animal did not present improvement in the clinical picture, being submitted to euthanasia.
