Resumo
O "estresse ao desmame" consiste em uma situação na qual, após o desmame, os bezerros apresentam-se susceptíveis à perda de peso e maior vulnerabilidade a doenças, uma vez que o desmame é um dos eventos que causam maiores níveis de estresse na vida produtiva desses animais. Neste contexto, objetiva-se apresentar um panorama dos dados científicos reportados na literatura referente aos principais impactos causados pelo estresse ao desmame em bezerros de corte submetidos a diferentes métodos de separação da matriz. Os achados desta revisão demonstram que o processo de desmame provoca estresse e impacta negativamente o comportamento dos bezerros, aos quais apresentam sinais de angústia como aumento de vocalização (+84%), atividade locomotora (+79%) e diminuição do tempo gasto em pastejo (-24%); a fisiologia, com aumento dos níveis de cortisol na corrente sanguínea (com valores variando entre 9,06 a 72,50ng/mL), frequência cardíaca (variando entre 60,00 a 84,80bat/min) e frequência respiratória (com valores entre 28,70 a 39,60mov/min); e o desempenho, havendo redução do ganho em peso corporal (de até -5,20kg) do desmame até 82 dias após. Diante disso, conclui-se que o
desmame é estressante para o animal e impacta negativamente o comportamento, a fisiologia e o desempenho pós- desmame dos bezerros de corte, especialmente quando realizado de forma abrupta.
