A Operação “Argus”

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss the conjectures and speculations around two episodes occurred in Brazil in the late 1950s. The first was an explosion in the sky over a town in the interior of Ceará, in July 1958, and the second “Operation Argus”, conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense, between August and September of the same year. The appropriations made by the subject of an historical episode and another led them to associate them to a possible underground atomic test conducted in Northeast Brazil.
