Abstract

The article deals with the celebrations of the Centenary of the Independence of Brazil, in September 1922, promoted by the “Comitê do Centenário”, of the workers association Aliança Artística e Proletária de Quixadá, founded in June 1921. , not only organizes a week of celebrations related to the week of the motherland and the Centenary, but also has, as its high point, the inauguration of a Monument to Work, symbolized by the blacksmith in action, in a public square in the city. Throughout the program, with Alliance members as protagonists, a work of ritualization and dissemination of representations of work, morals, civics and the social order is developed, in order to socially and politically legitimize the new entity before local society, in a context of exacerbation of workers' struggles in the country.
