Abstract

This research aimed to understand the family decision process for organ donation for transplants in the state of Ceará .The objective of this research was to understand the process of family decision on organ donation from potential donor
for transplantation in the state of Ceará. From this perspective, we tried to verify the donation/transplantation process introduced in the Transplantation Center of the State of Ceará; evaluate the understanding of families interviewed on the process of organ donation for transplantation and recognize the perception of families of potential donors interviewed about the desire to donate or not the organs of their family member to be transplanted, and acknowledge the reasons for refusal of organ donation for transplantation. This is an exploratory-descriptive and theoretical study, based on a literature research on authors who address this subject and on field research involving the families of potential donors of organs for transplantation. We also performed a documentary research in the Transplant Center of the State of Ceará and in the National Transplant System, aiming to know facts and figures for transplants performed during the eight years of the new
transplant system in Brazil, searching for information in documents, proceedings, regulations, circulars, letters, memoranda, balance sheets, and other informal communications.
