Abstract

Infections related to health care are controlled in Brazil from the 1970s through the implementation and maintenance of the hospital or health service an infection control committee (HICC), this committee has the authority to establish, maintain and evaluate the program hospital infection control (HICP). This program also organizes the management level of the Unified Health System (SUS), structured health surveillance in the State and County and has the competence to guide, educate and evaluate prevention and control of infection related to health care. Institutionally in Brazil in 1983 by Ordinance No. 196/83, already advocated the existence of program hospital infection control (HICP) after this other regulations have emerged, but the legality is far from institutional reality. Realizes that it is in two decades institutionalizing programs, but the feeling is that by investing search on the matter is that this reality of existence of effective programs is still under construction, many issues need to mature effectively.
