Abstract

This work aims to analyze the literary work, Hause of the spirits, by Isabel Allende, through the eyes of the Sociology of Romance and Violence. Literature offers an important contribution to the understanding of the sociocultural world. The novel reflects the social and historical context witnessed by the author and his readers, that is, the rituals, heroes, conflicts and narratives produced in literary works fulfill a social function: creating space for the interaction of social and historical values ​​between related subjects. The concepts used throughout the article were the sociology of the novel, violence and conflict. The methodology used was the analysis of literature and narratives. The results were the understanding of the historical context that can be any Latin American country and the author's ability to narrate such a long story, without losing coherence, and to unite reality to the supernatural universe with such veracity. When analyzing the individual within the novel, in which he portrays his individual conflicts and everyday life, we see the reflection of the outer society. The reader identifies with the characters, suffers for them. And this is the role of the sociology of the novel in analyzing how literary works, films, series influence the individual and society, in which we are all inserted. To representations of everyday life, in which it is shown seriously, with its human and social problems. The work is an effort to understand violence in contemporary society through Allende's work. Thus, presenting a portrait of this reality and enhancing the dialogue between Literature, Sociology and History, in addition to contributing to the field of Sociology of Romance and Conflict, deepening the work of violence in literary works.
