In this essay, I analyze the circulation of documentary films at Film Festivals held in Brazil and Mexico between April and September 2020, a period marked by the health restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The cartography presented here encompasses festivals dedicated exclusively to documentary films and international exhibitions dedicated to short and feature-films, allowing to assess the extent of the cinema programming during the period. Throughout the essay, I analyze some initiatives promoted in virtual environments in this period, reflecting on the challenges of promoting online programming, the ways that audiences interact with each other and with programs, and the new dynamics of online debates and events resulting from virtual festivals.
