Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the interactions between police officers and police officers in conflict situations at the revolving doors of bank branches. The objective was to characterize the power relations related to this scenario in which state and non-state actors meet and thus contribute to broaden discussions on ways to provide security in contemporary societies and pluralized policing. For this, the work used the contributions of Pierre Bourdieu and the concept of “securitizing capital”, as well as the analysis of judgments judged in the states of São Paulo and Paraná between 2010 and 2012. The results show that police officers predominantly use symbolic capital to secure their authority, while vigilantes and bank agencies use legal capital to conform their conduct. Such process is asserted to the extent that we find that the banks have almost unanimously won the judged cases, a phenomenon that can be thought together with the advance of private security services, no longer based solely on the protection and security performed by the state.
