Abstract

Based on the postulates of critical discourse analysis, this work investigated the social practices shaped in the official and normative discourse of a state program called Protected Neighbor Networks. It was thus proposed to understand how individuals justify social practices shaped by the official and normative discourse of those responsible for the program. The analytical scope consisted of a qualitative interpretative research in two municipalities of the State of Minas Gerais. Thus, we used the analysis of the three-dimensional model of Fairclough (1992) based on the text, discursive practice and social practice. The results of the analyzes show that residents’ discourses on solving their security problems constitute a reproduction of the official hegemonic discourse that networks are the answer to the problem of insecurity, but represent a paradox in relation to the adopted practice , since its practices culminate in the contracting of services of the private security industry.
