The struggle for land: memories of peasant women in Esteli/Nicaragua

Authors

Abstract

This essay describes the experiences of adult and young peasant women from the Between Women Foundation (FEM by its Spanish Acronyms) and the Cooperative The Goddesses who live in the department of Estelí, Nicaragua. It is a research by demand, centered on collective memory work and social cartography as methods that allowed the historization of the different forms of land dispossession and struggle they experienced, allowing them to reflect upon their propositions, based on the defense of their body/land/territory. The document is influenced by decolonial theories; however, the core of this work is based on the narratives of the FEM’s and Las Diosas’ members and their reflections about the construction of their own place as women, peasant, and feminists.
