Abstract

Medical anthropology works with a perspective of understanding the symbolic organization of the disease and the various models and therapeutic practices used in our midst. Thus, the concept of healing opens a door to a universe of meanings, because here, its definition is modified and goes beyond “getting rid of disease, healing ”. Healing is understood through "symbolic effectiveness". That is, although the individual continues to show physical symptoms, his illness assumes a symbolically constructed and accepted meaning. In this sense, these concepts are elaborated from an interpretation, which falls within the field of the symbolic and the cultural, And it is in this instance that the social actors define what is both the disease, health and cure.
