Abstract

The Banda Cabaçal dos Irmãos Aniceto, based in Vale da Cariri, Ceará, stands out for the domain of orality, noticed since the transmission of teachings among the members until the gestures of the shows. The oral wisdom of the Aniceto gathers sounds and images to represent the rural daily life. The man's world roça, in direct contact with the animals, is the target of stories told through gestures, facial expressions and dancing movements, with a theatrical effect, in a kind of pantomime. Gestures, as an extension of orality, reproduce the Northeastern bestiary in the group's musicized narrative, which culminates in marriage between the strength of the dance language and the music of the “woman heater”. It's art inspired by the sounds of nature and the simplicity of life of musicians-farmers like the Aniceto.
