Abstract

Considered as one of the most relevant practices of popular culture contemporary, Rap has been the subject of studies in different academic areas. Having lost its origins as an African American vernacular practice, it emerges in the middle 1970s, transforming and appropriating the sounds and techniques of the «disco» style. Today the genre survives in transformative resonances and new cultural inflections relocated. His critical discourse, his interest in mixing sounds, melody collage has been seen as a mirror of our time. The word mixed with sampled sounds, overlapping musical sources and movements body parts of the MC lead many to think of monotony and absence of abstractions; it lacks the artifice and complexity of scholarship. Taking these narratives as a starting point, we try to understand its aesthetic codes by placing it as expression of postmodern art.
