Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the gender relations and violence against women, through dialogue with some theoretical scholars of these themes, appropriating also of researches and studies that deepen these issues empirically, reflecting on the consequences of gender stereotyping that inequalities engender, denoting the most crucial part of this, that is, violence against women. The gender relations marks the places of men and women in a society, impressing the need for effective policies for gender equity when it requires a more just and egalitarian society. The reflections that follow deal with the social history of the concept of gender and its interlacement with power relations.
