Abstract

In this article, we resume speeches and discomfort noticed in classrooms where we act as teachers in undergraduate and graduate courses since the early 90’s. These voices and feelings guide our approach concerning the symbolic persistence, in the beginning of this century, of rigid conventions of genre, the notion of “dysfunctional family” as the source of all evil or the heterosexual standard as the path to happiness. The reactions of astonishment before two films - Antonia and Bubble - presented and discussed in classrooms throughout our practice as teachers are support to an interpretation that sheds light on the necessary violence involved in these continuities.
