Abstract

This study examines the causes and consequences of violence among young black people. It is a reflection on the reasons for so many deaths in this generational group and the constituent elements of a youth culture of resistance against this situation. Violence is either regarded as a part of the structural root of Brazilian society and as an aggregation element of youths for their self-improvement in building democracy. In this sense, demands and participatory possibilities of such social segment are aligned.
