The uses of public space and the insertion of art as an instrument of resistance
Keywords:
Space Public, Art in the city, IndividualizationAbstract
In this article, we propose to establish relations between the contributions of Hannah Arendt about the public and private spheres and the current shrinking of collective spaces, due to the increasing individualization, with other authors who focus on the subject. We seek also to bring reflections on the presence of art in the city as an instrument of resistance against certain urban development policies, as well as on the privatization of public space. Some conscious positioning of artists in relation to the insertion of artistic projects in the cities and the belief that art can contribute new ways of appropriation of what is or should be public.
