Allied to the process of global metropolization, asset inflation has been shown to be useful for the real and symbolic construction of public space. Thus, the notion of heritage goes beyond the traditional aspect of preserving the material legacy of the economically dominant social segment. In the process of building urbanity, it corresponds, on the one hand, to a political project that favors aesthetic consumption and urban territorial marketing, even involving the qualification of popular housing. On the other hand, the attribution of titles aimed at strengthening the competitive relationship between cities promotes the growth of heritage through aesthetics, turning it into a political tool for distinguishing between social groups. Thus, it represents, at the same time, a euphemism of the material and spatial inequalities that shape cities, but also the space of conflict and possible resistance of the popular segments.
