Abstract

The present text has as research proposal or role played by the doctors of the Centro Médico Cearense in the search for legitimizing the exercise the medical profession. Based on the city of Fortaleza, our study comprises the year 1931, the year in which it was sanctioned or Decree no. 19606 that regulation of the exercise of the pharmaceutical profession in Brazil. Through a memorandum from the Brazilian Medical Union, we analyzed how doctors at the Médico Cearense expresses his dissatisfaction with the content of some of the articles said decree. The theoretical-methodological framework is based in particular on concept of "field" proposed by Pierre Bourdieu and in the discussions developed by Pereira Neto on the strategies used by doctors without a sense of achievement monopoly on the exercise of their profession in the labor market. We carry out also an analysis of the writings of the magazine Ceará Médico, combined with the use of bibliographical references dealing with the history of medicine in Ceará.
