This reflection focuses on an ongoing event. This is a first look, permeated by the effervescences of the moment, on the slaughter of November 12, 2015, in Grande Messejana, in Fortaleza. At the time, 11 people were murdered and suspicions fell on public security operators. In the days that followed, it was also possible to observe political movements around the causes and consequences of the event. While the State Government sought to maintain the facade of control over public security in Fortaleza, opposition forces took the opportunity to highlight the fragility of the system in the face of problems that it was unable to avoid. At this juncture, we reflect on how people's lives and deaths are discussed based on representations that speak of violence as a structuring force in social life.
