The invention of the city as a landscape form

The objective of this article is to contibute to a forged perspective by Sociology of Art, to understand the relation which has been stablished for the last 3 decades of art production between the theme city and the abstract lyricism of Antônio Bandeira paintings (1922-1967). Through an oriented view by the sociological categories of analysis, the researcher grasps and conducts a slow formal process of transmutation whose fundament is anchored on the many positions occupied by the paintor along his life path.On one hand, such process points to a clearense of the city by the eyes of the artist, which converts the representation of the urban landscape in landscape-form; On the other hand, it points out the emergency of an own style, marked by the growing abstraction of cities - of an artistical recurrent content, it has been transformed into a landscape form affirmation, set as image-synthesis on the cities where Bandeira has already lived in - Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro and Paris.
