Abstract

Violence against women is a serious problem of violation of human rights, being a phenomenon that affects women of various social classes, races, ethnicities, religions and education. It causes irreparable damage that affects a woman's health, development and self-esteem. Violence harms not only women, but also insults family and even friends. Because of this reality, the women's movement has claimed, among other struggles, for shelter facilities. In Ceará, in 1992, the Casa do Caminho shelter was created for women victims of domestic violence, whose main objective is the reception of these, together with their children, constituting one of the main rearguard policies in the fight against violence against women.
