Abstract

The neoliberal model of state in Latin America has aggravated the phenomenon of poverty. The main objective of this paper was to understand how poverty and gender are intrinsically related categories. We carry out bibliographical research on the themes, discussing with several authors. Finally, assuming gender as a poverty analysis category allows us to see that it affects gender differently and unequally. This debate can contribute to the reflection of the forms of intervention in the social issue, promoting the analysis of public policies to combat poverty, since we cannot fail to recognize the feminization of poverty as a constituent element of the phenomenon.
