The frizz of the backlands

Abstract

Through an analysis that opposes texts from the regionalist literature and oral texts collected in field research in the city of Pilar (GO), I propose a reading of the hinterland against its usual interpretations, which almost always take it as a place of aridity, inhospitable and full of scarcity. The oral texts that I analyze operate with a notion in which the sertão is considered the place of abundance. At the same time as they update the Garden of Delights myth, they assess development issues and private land ownership.
