Abstract

This paper analyzes the course of ideas, projects and policies concerning rural education in Brazil from the 1930s, emphasizing nationalism and pedagogical ruralism as key ideas in defining the direction of education for the Brazilian rural then. The reality of Ceará is highlighted in this theoretical reflection, in view of its pioneering attitude towards the creation of a normal rural school in 1934, the result of the patriotic commotion that contaminated the society of that time and as undisputed proof of the fulfillment of the nationalist and ruralist yearnings that It focused on the need to internalize the light of instruction as a way of elevating the peasantry culturally, spiritually, and patriotically. The study was conducted through bibliographical research and documentary and hemerographic sources.
