Abstract

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is one of the major global health problems, with a significant increase following the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Although the natural progression of AMR is inevitable, it is essential to understand its development in order to reduce cases, emphasizing the need to limit the inappropriate use of antimicrobials. The following study aims to identify and map mobile applications developed on antimicrobial resistance in the literature or available in online app stores for smartphones with Android and iOS operating systems through a scoping review. The review was conducted following the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. Searches were conducted in databases, thesis and dissertation portals, and in app stores on Android and iOS operating systems. The searches were performed in September 2023. From the search, 1322 studies and 420 applications were identified, resulting in a final sample of 6 and 1, respectively. The apps were developed and applied in areas such as health education, teaching, primary and hospital care. Mobile apps on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) have proven to be important supportive tools in reducing antimicrobial resistance, highlighting health education, infection monitoring and tracking, proper prescription, access to clinical information, and rapid diagnostic tools.
