From pioneering abolition to confronting racism and racial discrimination: African experiences and Unilab in Ceará

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the experiences of African and African subjects, from their Atlantic displacements to study at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (Unilab) located in Acarape and Redenção in the State of Ceará, regions that are symbols of the abolition of slavery. As a research procedure, thematic oral history (Alberti, 2005) and quantitative data analysis. The proposal will reasoned on the concepts of "racism" (Dummett, 2004), "racial discrimination" (Almeida, 2018) and identity black (Santos, 1983; Gomes, 2002). As a result of the work, it was identified, in the students' perception, the impact of the daily presence of racism and racial discrimination in the region, a situation that provokes actions by Unilab to face the problem.
