HISTORY, SUBVERSION AND RESISTANCE (1994 TO 2003).

Abstract

The Corporation of Artisans and Artisanal Entities (CAENART) was an institution created by artisans residing in Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, in the 1990s. This corporation emerged in a context of tensions created by a relation ship of forces between the interests of a group of artisans, representative softh is category of traditional workers in Ceará, and the state'spublic policies, socially legitimizedth roughactions carried out by the Central de Artesanato (CEART). Given this framework, this articleaims to discuss the emergence of CAENART, the limits of its actions and the reach of its resistance, highlighting an intriguing record of CAENART in the History of the formation of the field of crafts in contemporary Ceará.
