Abstract

The Department of Culture of São Paulo (1935-1938) played a fundamental role in the
preservation of national culture, conducting research and disseminating material to Brazil and the
world of its actions. Mário de Andrade, with a team of intellectuals, was the great mentor of this
project and actions carried out. Today the Centro Cultura São Paulo preserves and disseminates these
collections from the Society of Ethnography and Folklore (1936-1939), the Folk Research Mission
(1938) and the Municipal Public Discotheque (1935-1982), enabling the general public to discover
and new studies for the preservation of Brazilian culture.
