IN DRY TIMES: HYGIENIC INTERVENTIONS AND HEALTH QUESTIONS IN FORTALEZA (1877-1879)

Abstract

This article examines the hygiene interventions and actions in the health field during the dry period from 1877 to 1879, in Fortaleza. At this time, the city was as a refuge for many migrants who wanted better living conditions. However, they had to live precarious housing conditions and diseases, such as smallpox. In the documentation searched of 2004, during the master's degree in Social History from PUC-SP, the action taken by doctors and hygienists for the control of hygiene and the organization of migrants in urban space were observed. Thus, understanding these questions allowed us to understand the daily life of Fortaleza at the end of XIX Century .
