Abstract

This paper bases on Sérvulo Esmeraldo‟s speech who reforces the autonomy and unity
of his production. The concepts of autopoiesis (formuled by Humberto Maturana) and
enaction (by Francisco Varela) and the process of artistic creation articulate this
thought. It will be presented a brief route of his life and work in order to identify the
marks that express the consistency of his artistic project, related on geometry,
calculation and movement. The aim it is not laud the lonely path of his production,
but consider his artistic creation as knowledge maker. The origin of this autonomy
could be related to an experimentalism of scientific method, recurrent in modern art.
