Abstract

This work aims to present some thoughts on what we concepttualize as the alencariana
poetic historiography. We will analyze the use that José de Alencar made of available sources
and historiography at the time he wrote his first National Romance, O Guarani, emerged
first in newspaper in 1856 and subsequently drawn as book format in the year of 1857. From
this alencariana archeology of knowledge, we can understand the specific interests of the
narrative strategy of this writer from Ceará. Finally, we will direct the reader perspective to
narrative horizon of José de Alencar, pointing to the complexity and organicity in the work
of the national literature patriarch.
